Melanotan 2 ist ein zyklisches Heptapeptid, das als nicht-selektiver Agonist an Melanocortin-Rezeptoren wirkt. Es wurde umfassend auf seine Auswirkungen auf die Hautpigmentierung durch MC1R-Aktivierung sowie auf seine Wechselwirkungen mit MC3R und MC4R untersucht, die an der Appetitregulierung und an Signalwegen der Sexualfunktion beteiligt sind.
